In 2008, Robert discovered the phrase Organic Church in a book that explored the roots of our church practices. He was captured by the phrase and how the church of today came to have things like pews, buildings, orders of worship, sermons, and more. (The story of this discovery is in Chapter 34 of his memoir Footprints.)
The phrase Organic Church became used by many authors to mean several different things, so its usage has been dropped, and the term Ekklesia replaces it. Many often think of the Ekklesia as a different way to meet than the institutional church that most people are familiar with. And yet, the weekly meeting is only a small part of what the Ekklesia is.
The Ekklesia is an organism birthed by God. It is a lifestyle, a way of life, a shared life community of the King (Jesus). The center and the circumference of the Ekklesia is Jesus. The focus of the Ekklesia is what Paul called the eternal purpose of God in Ephesians 3:11.
Since 2008, Robert has been convinced that the Ekklesia is God’s choice for Jesus-followers, and that his calling from God is the reestablishment of the Ekklesia on earth. During this time Robert has been taught by others experienced in planting and developing Ekklesias and by God Himself.
